Sometimes hospice care is not started soon enough. Sometimes the doctor, patient, or family member will resist hospice because he or she feels it sends a message of no hope. This is not true. If a patient does recover or the disease goes into remission, he or she may be discharged from the hospice program. However, the patient may be readmitted at any time if the doctor feels it is appropriate.
The hope that hospice brings is the hope of making the best of each day during the last stages of advanced illness.
Hospice care services
There are many aspects of hospice care which sets it apart from other types of healthcare. These include:
Interdisciplinary Team
At VNA Hospice an interdisciplinary health care team manages your hospice care. Doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, home health aides, clergy, therapists, and trained volunteers care for you and offer support based upon their special areas of expertise. VNA Hospice provides complete care aimed at relieving symptoms while offering social, emotional, and spiritual support.
Pain and symptom control
The goal of pain and symptom control is to help you achieve optimal levels of comfort while enhancing quality of life.
Spiritual care
VNA Hospice care also tends to the diverse spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Home Care
VNA Hospice and Home Health of Lackawanna County will provide care in your place of residence.
